There is something wrong with the fact that airlines can inflate prices when there are special events or “overbook” the number of seats on a flight.

There is nothing accidental about this — it is a tactic merely used to ensure planes are filled to capacity and therefore maximise profits. Why are there not regulations which prevent them from doing this?

On an airline’s website it often states “there are only two seats left”, causing customers to panic and pay over the odds. If this isn’t the case, surely customers should be reimbursed the difference? It was also telling that when United Airlines reacted to the shocking treatment of Dr David Dao on Wednesday, it condemned his behaviour.

Only after the company’s stock price took a nosedive did it alter its stance. It just goes to show that airlines will do anything to protect their revenue. It is a shame they don’t treat their passengers similarly.
