A teenage witness who gave evidence in the trial of N-Dubz rapper Dappy has spoken of her distress after being targeted by his fans on Twitter.
Serena Burton told Guildford crown court the performer started a fight at a petrol station after she and a friend, Grace Cochran, spurned his advances.
Dappy, 25, charged under his real name Costadinos Contostavlos, was found guilty of affray and assault by beating and could face up to three years in jail when he is sentenced next month. He was cleared of two counts of common assault relating to claims that he spat at Miss Burton and Miss Cochran, both 19.
On ITV’s Daybreak, Miss Burton said she had been sent several messages by Dappy’s fans. They included one saying: “Ha ha — hope you and your mate die a horrible death.” She said: “We’ve had some horrific messages. It’s upsetting but me and Grace try to ignore it.”
Dappy took to Twitter to ask his fans to stop sending the messages. He wrote: “Guys, the girls have had their 15 minutes. Nuthin to be gained by sending hate to them.”
